Realtime Audio Effects for 32-Bit Windows
Full-Duplex Version, v. 1.08
-----------------------------------------
Program by: Dmitry Simon <dima@simon.spb.ru>
Distributed by: Brian Marinari <bmarinar@lust.loyola.edu>
Home Page: http://www.glue.umd.edu/~bmarinar/realtime.html
Intro
-----
This program allows you to add professional-quality audio effects to your
PC's digital audio. Using an upgradable software solution, you can
add reverbs, choruses, noise gating, simulated tube distortion, EQ, flanger,
and more to your MIDI or CD audio output, or effect a mic/line signal (such as
a guitar) in REALTIME!
This Version
------------
This version is compatible with all Full duplex Windows API-compatible soundcards,
and has full functionality to provide the effects. This version, however, is
shareware (as described below) and has approximately a 0.5 second frame delay between
input and output signals.
This has no adverse effect on functionality for the MIDI or CD applications, and registered
users may keep the software (and future upgrades) and use this version for a wide range
of applications. Those who intend to use the software for applications such as guitar
effects, for which the frame delay is unacceptible, may use this version as a demonstration
of the quality off the effects and the stability of the technology, but would most be
interested in purchasing the FULL VERSION which eliminates this limitation. For details
on the no-delay version, please visit the website at
http://www.glue.umd.edu/~bmarinar/realtime.html or via e-mail at bmarinar@lust.loyola.edu
for compatibility details and purchase information.
Shareware
---------
This version is SHAREWARE. You may install and use this software for a period of 30 days.
If you like it, and would like to see future work on this project, please register
the software by sending $30 to the address below. You will receive all future updates
to this version of the software within a year of registration, as well as credit
toward the purchase of the full version. If you do not wish to register at the end of this
period, you must remove the software from your system. We are working very hard to develop
and improve this product for your use, but we can only continue to do so with the financial
support of the interested users.

Distribution
------------
Since this product is shareware, we support and even encourage distribution of this
program throughout the Internet, via web page links or FTP archives, with only the
following condition: This text file (unmodified) MUST accompany the executable program
in an archive file such as .zip. As a courtesy, we ask that you send us the address
so we can post it our links/mirrors section of the web site.
How to Use the Program
----------------------
Installation: Simply extract the two executable files into a new directory. From there,
you may create shortcuts, and links, etc. to the program run_me.exe.
How to use: Simply enable the device (MIDI, CD, line in) that you wish to effect in the
"record" section of your soundcard's mixer (or the "volume control" in the Win 95 system
tray. You may wish to disable the device in the "playback" section, or else the frame
delay will cause the sound to be heard twice. Simply press "start" on the effect program
control panel to begin. You may then play with the effects until you get the
desired result. If a lot of distortion occurs, and the distortion effects are set to
"off", lower the volume in the recording section of your mixer.
Reverb button: 3 types of reverb algorithms are included. Press the button continuously
to cycle through them, or to "off" for no reverb. Future releases may allow user-
editable algorithms, with a collection downloadable at the web site.
Coming Soon
-----------
This new GUI is much improved over the past one (or lack thereof). There is also a
version in development with knobs and other fun things too. Patch or preset support
is being worked on now, so you can create, download, exchange patch sets. We've got
a pitch shifter in now too that sounds great, should be in an upcoming release.
Feedback
--------
We hope you like what we've done for now. We're working hard to make this a truly
first-rate product. Let us know what you think, what you'd like to see, what isn't
so good, etc.
